Report: Dream move home opener vs. Fever amid arena search

Amid a broader search for more seating capacity, the Atlanta Dream will at least offer more access for one game when they move their May 22 home opener against the Indiana Fever to the home of the NBA's Atlanta Hawks, Front Office Sports reported Wednesday.
The switch to State Farm Arena will provide a capacity of over 17,000 for the game against the Fever and star Caitlin Clark. That is well above their home arena's capacity of 4,000 fans.
More interest in the team is expected in 2025 with the addition of Brittney Griner, who signed a free-agent deal with the Dream in the offseason.
The Dream moved two games against the Fever to State Farm Arena last season and one contest drew a crowd of 17,608. According to the report, scheduling conflicts will only allow the Dream to move their home opener to the larger Hawks arena.
Adding to the Dream's challenge of finding a new home is that they are one of just five independent teams in the league not connected to an existing pro franchise in their home market.
The team also has explored moving games to the arenas of both Georgia State and Georgia Tech in Atlanta, as well as an arena a short drive south in Duluth, Ga. The Dream advanced to the playoffs in 2024, but they did not host a postseason game as the No. 8 seed.
